  • Four documents. The first is a messge from Gerhardt to Marshall about Johnson's qualifications for General Officer in the 56th Cavalry Brigade. The second is a message from Swift to Krueger who believes that the 56th performed "magnificently" under Gerhardt. The third is a message from Krueger to Marshall about Gerhardt remaining in command of the 56th Cavalry but disagreeing that Johnson is qualified as a commander for it. The fourth is a message from McNair to Marshall that while Johnson is a qualified commander, as a National Guardsman, he may not be as qualified as an officer of the Regular Army.
